The White County Board of Assessors is responsible for the appraisal and assessment of Personal Property located in White County. Personal Property includes boats and motors, aircraft, and heavy equipment. If you own a business, furniture, fixtures, equipment, inventory, machinery and supplies are also considered Personal Property.
Ownership of Personal Property is established January 1 of each year.
A Personal Property return must be filed with the Board of Assessors Office annually, prior to April 1. As a courtesy, returns are mailed out in January however failure to receive the form from the Assessors Office does not relieve the property owner of the Responsibility of filing a return. You are required to file a return each year you are in business. Forms may be downloaded from the following link https://etax.dor.ga.gov/ptd/adm/forms/pt.aspx
Statutes require that a value be determined even if the owner fails to file a return. If a return is not filed the Board of Assessors must determine the value based on the best information available. Failure to file timely, subjects the owner to possible penalties.
It must be established that you are no longer in business prior to January 1 of the current year in order to discontinue tax generation. In the case of boats, aircraft and heavy equipment that have been sold a bill of sale must be provided to this office with a sales date prior to January 1 of the current year.
Assessment Notices are mailed to Personal Property owners in April. An opportunity to appeal is afforded and is explained in detail in the notice.
