Homestead Exemptions For 2007
Homestead exemptions are to be filed by March 1 of any given year. The following
exemption amounts are deducted from the assessed (40%) value as indicated. Only
one homestead exemption is allowed per taxpayer.
ES1 - Regular Homestead
To qualify for this exemption one must own and reside on the property as of
January 1st of the filing year.
Exemption amount is $2,000 State, County and
School.
You must be eligible for the S1 exemption to qualify for any of the following
and provide proof of income at the time of registration. (Income amounts are
based on the proceeding year).
ES3
This exemption requires the property owner to be 62 or older as of January
1st of the filing year with a gross household income of $10,000 or less. This
includes Social Security and Retirement income and all other sources of income
for all persons living at the residence.
Exemption amount is $2,000 State and
County and $10,000 School and School Bond.
ES4
This exemption requires the property owner to be 65 or older as of January
1st of the filing year. Net income must not exceed $10,000 for property owner
and spouse (if any). Social Security and Retirement (including Pensions) must
not exceed $50,784.
Exemption amount is $4,000 County and County Bond $10,000 School and School Bond.
Plus 100% on home and up to ten (10) contiguous acres of land and $4,000 on the
balance of value on State only.
ES5 - Disabled Veterans
To qualify for this exemption the property owner must be considered 100%
disabled and disability must be due to military service. This exemption requires
a letter from the Veterans Administration confirming your disability.
Exemption amount is $50,000.
ES6 - Floating Homestead exemption based on individual assessment.
Must be 62 years old as of January 1st.
Total household income cannot exceed $30,000.
This exemption will not freeze assessment on school tax.
This exemption requires forfeiture of your regular exemption. Your parcel must
have a substantial increase in the assessment value in order to receive a
benefit similar to the regular homestead exemption.
ES8
This exemption requires the property owner to be 62 or older as of
January 1st. Total gross income of applicant and all other persons residing in
the home is less than $30,000 and net income of applicant and spouse is less
than $10,000.
Exemption amount applies to house and up to five (5) contiguous acres of
property, $10,000 School and School Bond.
ES9
This exemption requires the property owner to be 65 or older as of January
1st. Total gross income of applicant and all other persons residing in the home
is less than $30,000 and net income of applicant and spouse is less than
$10,000.
Exemption amount, $10,000 School and School Bond, $4,000 County Bond. Plus 100% on
home and up to ten (10) contiguous acres of land on State only.
ESC
This exemption requires the property owner to be 65 or older as of January
1st of the filing year. No income requirements.
Exemption amount is $2,000 County and School. Plus 100% on home and up to ten (10)
contiguous acres of land on State only.
EL1
This exemption requires the property owner to be 65 or older as of
January 1st of the filing year. Gross income of property owner and spouse must not
exceed $15,000 from all sources of income.
Exemption amount is $4,000 State. $15,000 County and State.
HB1425
This is an additional local homestead exemption from certain White
County ad valorem taxes for county purposes in the amount equal to the amount by
which the current year assessed value of a homestead exceeds the base year
assessed value of such homestead.
This exemption shall include only the primary
residence and not more than five (5) contiguous acres of land immediately
surrounding such residence.
ESD - Un-remarried surviving spouse of disabled Veteran.
To qualify for this exemption the applicant must be 65 as of January 1st. A surviving spouse of a
100% disabled Veteran with Disability due to military service.
Exemption amount is $50,000. Plus 100% on home and up to ten (10) contiguous
acres of land and $50,000 on balance of value on State only.
ESE - Un-remarried surviving spouse of US Service member killed in action.
Requires a letter from the secretary of Defense stating the un-remarried
surviving spouse receives spousal benefits as a result of the death of spouse.
Must be 65 as of January 1st. No income limit
Exemption amount is $50,000 off assessed value on County, County Bond, School and
School Bond. Plus 100% on home and up to ten (10) contiguous acres of land and
$50,000 on balance of value on State only.
ESS - Un-remarried surviving spouse of US Service Member killed in action.
Requires a letter from the Secretary of Defense stating Un-remarried surviving
spouse receives spousal benefits as a result of the death of spouse who was
killed or died as a result of a war or armed conflict while on active duty. No
age or income limit.
Exemption amount is $50,000 off the assessed value of County, County Bond, and
School.
To receive homestead exemption for the current year the property owner must file
before March 1st
There is no exemption available in White County which totally exempts the
elderly from School tax.
Failure to make application within the prescribed time constitutes a waiver of
the exemption for that year.
