White County,
the 123rd of the 159 counties formed in Georgia, was created in 1857
from a part of the original landlot county of Habersham. The county
was named for Newton County Representative David T. White, who

Helen, nestled in the Blue Ridge Mountains on the Chattahoochee River, is a
re-creation of an alpine village, complete with cobblestone alleys and

dating back to the Cherokee Indians and their burial mounds, early
settlers who mined for gold and cut virgin timber.
