Title Ad Valorem Tax

Title Ad Valorem Tax or (TAVT) is a new form of taxation upon motor vehicles all across the State of Georgia. The tax replaces Sales Tax and Annual Ad Valorem Tax and instead utilizes a one-time tax. This tax is calculated by multiplying the fair market value of the vehicle with the current tax rate of 7%. The Title Ad Valorem Tax is only applicable on vehicles purchased on or after March 1, 2013. For an estimate on TAVT, please visit the Department of Revenue's calculator.

New Residents

New residents to Georgia must pay TAVT when registering their title and motor vehicle. They may choose to pay all of the TAVT due at the time of the initial registration or new residents to Georgia do have the option to pay 50% of the tax within 30 days of moving and their initial title and registration processing, with the remaining 50% being payed within the next year. Note: The Georgia title may not be generated/printed until the taxes have been paid in full. Please feel free to give our office a call if you have questions.
