Things to Consider
According to Georgia Law, property tax responsibilities are determined by the whoever owns the property by January 1st. The following is a list of actions taken by the Tax Commissioner's Office for buyers/sellers to consider when closing a property sale.
- The White County Tax Commissioner is required to send a tax bill to whoever owned the property on January 1st.
- The White County Tax Commissioner's Office will also send a tax bill to the new property owner.
- Documents signed at the property sale closing will indicate which party is responsible for the tax bill.
- The White County Tax Commissioner's Office does not prorate taxes between buyers and sellers. This should be handled at the closing of the property.
Please contact the White County Tax Commissioner's Office if you have any questions concerning your property tax bill.
