Q: How do I know if it’s okay to burn?
A: When you call for a burn permit, you will be advised by Georgia Forestry whether burning is allowed for the day.
Q: What are the ISO ratings for White County?
A: Excluding City limits, you could be a 7, 9, or 10.
Q: What is the ISO rating for my home?
A: Call our Headquarters office during regular business hours at 706-865-3855, and have your 911 address ready.
Q: How many members are there in the White County Fire Department?
A: At present, we have 102 volunteers. Four (4) of those members are full time county
staff employees located at Headquarters: Fire Chief, Assistant Fire Chief, Technical
Services Officer, and Administrative Assistant.
Q: How do I become a member?
A: Our application is attached. Fill it out and drop it by at the Headquarters during regular business hours.
Q: Can anyone join?
A: Men and women 18 years old and older are welcome to submit an application. All applicants
are subject to a background check and you must be capable of strenuous physical work.
Q: Is there a program for those under 18 years of age?
A: Yes, we have an EXPLORER program for future members that are still in High School.

A: No, but you can contact the White County Board of Commissioners at
706-865-2235 and they can refer you to a different department that does.
