Form and Function

The White County Community and Economic Development Department is a multifaceted and diverse entity charged with promoting the growth and expansion of White County. To meet that goal, the Community and Economic Development Department oversees the following functions:

Building Department

The White County Building Department is responsible for ensuring the public safety through the enforcement of federal, state, and local codes that govern construction. The department's staff reviews plans, issues building permits, and performs in field inspections to ensure building code compliance.

Code Enforcement

The White County Code Enforcement Division is a division within the White County Community and Economic Development Division. Code Enforcement is responsible for enforcing White County’s ordinances and codes. Our approach is simple, we engage with our citizens and provide education on how to gain compliance when a violation of code is identified. If a violator fails to correct the violation within a reasonable amount of time, then a summons maybe issued and the matter will be turned over to the courts for judicial compliance. Our goal is to make White County a safe and healthy place to live, work and play.

Economic Development

The Economic Development Department is working to develop and apply new ideas, techniques, and technologies to generate and improve productivity levels, fiscal sustainability, business development, job growth, and quality of life within White County.

Planning Department

Most activities for the Planning Department start with a pre-application meeting with the staff. At the pre-application meeting, the staff helps the applicant understand the process and what is necessary to successfully complete an application.
