Murphy Named 2024 County Clerk of the Year

The Georgia County Clerks Association has proudly announced Shanda Murphy as the recipient of the 2024 County Clerk of the Year Award. Murphy, currently serving as the County Clerk for White County, has been recognized for her exceptional dedication and outstanding contributions to her community and profession.

Shanda was awarded this honor at the Association of County Commissioners of Georgia (ACCG) Leadership Awards Gala held on Saturday, April 27th in Savannah, Georgia. In presenting the award, 2023 Clerk of the Year, Stephanie Johnson, hailed Murphy as an exemplary County Clerk with outstanding performance and professionalism in government.

In response to Shanda's recognition, Travis Turner, Chairman of the White County Board of Commissioners, expressed profound admiration for her unwavering dedication, stating, "Shanda exemplifies unwavering dedication to her career and the constituents of White County. Her commitment in doing-so, keeps White County running as smooth as possible and makes her an essential asset to our organization."

In his letter of recommendation, Chairman Turner concluded with a resounding endorsement, affirming, "Her unwavering commitment to upholding the integrity and honor of her role as White County Clerk is evident in every aspect of her work. The Board of Commissioners recognizes Shanda as an invaluable asset to the county, appreciating her continued support and dedication."

About Shanda

Shanda Murphy's journey with White County started in 2005 when she began the role of Human Resources Director. In 2008, Murphy assumed the role of County Clerk from her predecessor, Jean Welborn. Since then, Shanda has demonstrated unparalleled commitment and skill in her dual roles as County Clerk and Human Resources Director.

Shanda's accomplishments extend beyond her roles in White County. She actively engages in professional development and stays updated on evolving laws, particularly in Human Resources and County Clerk responsibilities. Shanda's proactive approach and comprehensive understanding of local governance make her an invaluable leader.

A proud native of White County, Shanda's roots extend from her graduation at White County High School to her academic pursuits at Truett-McConnell College (now Truett-McConnell University) and North Georgia College (now University of North Georgia), where she earned a Bachelor's of Science degree in Psychology. Shanda's comprehensive understanding of the county surpasses it’s intricate policies and procedures but also encompasses geographic locations, local attractions and the history of North Georgia.

In addition to her professional achievements, Shanda Murphy is deeply rooted in her community, serving on various boards and actively participating in local initiatives. She is devoted to her family and church.
